Story on most dangerous jobs:

http://money.cnn.com/2005/08/26/pf/jobs_jeopardy/index.htm

Ric,
Rhetorical question:
How come the news media never point out the 93% of workplace fatality victims are male and only 7% are female? When these numbers are compared to the fact that nearly half of the workforce is female there is a horrible sex disparity. If the statistics for the sexes were reversed, there would be 24 hour coverage by all of the news outlets until the situation was remedied!

Last year CNNFN had the gall to mention that "fisher men and women" experience some of the highest fatality rates. I looked at the BLS report they cited and zero women died in the fishing industry catagory.

The media never seems to miss the chance to report that women on average earn less than men, while failing to mention that there is no difference in men's and women's income when you factor in education and years of experience within any given job category.

Bureau of Labor Statistics report:

Sincerely,
John P

Follow-up to the earlier post - The point I want to make is that whenever something can be construed as being bad for women, the news media and politicians makes a big deal about it. When something happens that is bad for men, the world takes for granted that it’s a man’s duty, or ignore it all together.

The news media does not blink an eye when a government report states that men suffer 93% of workplace fatalities, while at the same time they eagerly report that women earn less than men (with the implication that women are being exploited).

I want to arm men with facts. I think this is important because these half-truths and deceptions, if not confronted, lead to official policy and laws. Men need to wakeup! There is a militant feminist minority who has been diligently distorting the facts for decades and as a result we now have many laws unnecessarily and unjustly favoring women.

There is a double standard in most industrialized western countries, and it is the exact opposite of what feminists have manipulated the system into believing – currently men are the ones actually getting the short end of the stick. Every feminist claim that I have researched has proved to be incorrect.

Examples:

Men and women initiate domestic violence on a near equal basis – after the feminist spin we end up with a federal law “Violence Against Women Act”.

Feminists think women are underrepresented in the military – after the feminist spin 200,000 men lost their military jobs to make room for women, yet the statistics show that 96% of all military casualties are men (war and peacetime). The only significant up tick in female casualties happened in the first 6 months of the Iraq war – now they are back to the level experienced in WWII. We are talking about thousands of men dieing in an average year. Before women’s liberation combat related fatalities were 99.99% men. After women’s liberation men’s combat fatalities only dropped to 97.5% of the total (remember – women are 50% of the population). From 1980 to 1999 we are talking about nearly 1.5 million more men died in military service than women. Where is the equality in this?

News media trumpet that women make less than men – but fail to mention that 93% of workplace fatalities are men – men take jobs that require more hours per week and time away from home – and when you factor in education and work experience there is no difference in income between men and women. Furthermore, marketing statistics (and common sense) shows that women control the vast majority of consumer spending. I have not seen a study on the following, but my calculations (and common sense) tell me that women in the US consume the majority of GDP, while at the same time produce a minority of the GDP. After the feminist spin we end up with affirmative action and government set asides for contracts.

Feminists claim that society imposes unreasonable expectations on women about their appearance and claim that 50,000 girls a year die from anorexia nervosa. The news media made a huge deal about this – yet the facts show that only few thousand women even suffer from the condition, and only a few (something like a dozen) actually died.

Feminists claim that the hardships of life and societies expectations drive many girls to commit suicide, and the imply that males commit suicide a much lower rate that females. Of course the news media makes a big deal about this. Now for the facts – the NIH and World Health Organization statistics that 85% of all suicide victims are male, and 15% are female. US Department of Health statistics agree with the NIH and WHO, and show that each year approximately 2.9 million more young men commit suicide per year than women.

Feminists claim that the medical establishment neglect women’s health needs and the media widely reported the claim. The facts actually show the opposite to be true – two thirds of all doctors’ office visits are consumed by women (excluding pregnancy related visits). The government spends $2,000 in research for each prostate cancer death, and $12,000 for each breast cancer death, while the prevalence of both diseases is about the same. The National Institute of Health spends 5% of its budget on men’s health research, and 10% on women’s.

Next time you run into a feminist, or someone spouts off about some feminist propaganda, present them with some of these facts. Ask the feminist – “do you want equality, or do you want to be a protected class?” You can’t have it both ways! Sadly, feminists have been able to finesse so they can have it both ways!

Is Yahoo public enemy No. 1 for Big Media?
Rare is the moment when a newspaper actually thinks out loud. Even more rare is a newspaper thinking aloud about its competitors and about the future of its own business.
